Roca London Gallery, recent winner at the Lighting Design Awards 2012

Awards

Barcelona, 3 April 2012. The Roca London Gallery was recently named the winner of the Large Retail Project at the Lighting Design Awards for its innovative concept of space and lighting design, again proving itself to be a benchmark for the world of design.

The 10th annual Lighting Design Awards event was held at the London Hilton on 21 March and brought together more than 700 designers, manufacturers and architects to celebrate a successful year in industry and acknowledge everyone involved in design.

Judged to be one of the most novel spaces, the Roca London Gallery is a project designed by the Zaha Hadid Architects studio, which developed a unique concept inspired by the power of water as a transforming element.

Roca’s commitment to design and innovation is especially evident in the building exterior, which boasts a singular façade and gives the Roca Gallery an immediate identity. Its form is composed of three entrances that resemble water-eroded topography and open the facility to the city.

The Roca London Gallery occupies one floor and covers an area of 1,100 m2, in which every detail appears to have been carved and sculpted by water. The gallery interior is composed of a striking white space lighted by a spray of light drops that make up the spine of this iconic building.

The first Roca Gallery, located in Barcelona, won a similar award in June 2010, when it received the International Lighting Design award from the International Association of Lighting Designers, a prestigious accolade recognized worldwide.

Roca London Gallery

Roca Galleries are part of Roca’s international strategy and a concept that expresses present-day realities and future challenges. Design, innovation, sustainability and well-being are Roca values expressed in the Galleries, which also convey the desire of the leading bathroom brand to maintain an ongoing dialogue with society and most particularly with professionals who share an interest and enthusiasm in shaping the future of bathroom spaces. The various Roca Galleries in Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon and London are a vehicle for expressing this desire, while providing a meeting place and area for open dialogue between interior decorators, designers and architects worldwide.

First opened in October 2011, the Roca London Gallery is the result of a cooperative effort with the Zaha Hadid Architects studio. The Roca London Gallery is a functional and flexible area where the Roca product showroom shares its space naturally with exhibitions, presentations, professional meetings and events of interest that further enrich the sociocultural offering of London.

Located in Chelsea Harbour, opposite the Imperial Wharf overground station, the site is host to various exhibitions, debates, discussions and meetings on a variety of themes such as architecture, design, nature and sustainability.
