ageing and accessibility

Lecture of Kazuyo Sejima "Ageing and accessibility" with Josep Congost (Roca) and Isabel Roig (BCD) at the Roca Barcelona Galery on October 8th 2013.

"Thinking about elder people is very important, because they can enjoy many things. But the most important thing is sensitivity."

“The balance between dreams and reality is very complex. A dream, sometimes has de power to convince but some others it is just an impossible dream.”

“We are making more complex designs than people really needs. Maybe the most important rule should try to make things easier for people”

"In Japan we study another lifestyle, a design more natural and comfortable"

“Jump the Gap means far away from reality and far away from real products that we could manage today”

“The only way to face the future is that new generations of the designers and architects work assuring two topics: sustainability and ageing”

“What we are saying now is that has to be a design or architecture specifically for each demography. But don’t you think it coul be possible to integrate sensitivity for all demographics in the same kind of design. Some kind of sensibility towards accessibility useful both for young people but
also for the elderly.”

“There are two topics that are a fact: one is the sustainability, we are destroying the planet; and the second one is the demographic, people is living more years."
